Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20 1964, is an American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is both the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official of the United America. A member of the Democratic Party, she has been the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017, and also as a United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to being enlisted into the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and later the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. She was elected Attorney general of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she was re-elected. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the first African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator , she supported healthcare reform, federal descholaring of cannabis, a pathway for undocumented immigrants to become citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also supported progressive tax reform. She is well-known for the direct questioning she conducted of Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
